Shapes combined

I have combined the shapes shown in the previous blog post to create more complex shapes.
The combined concepts:

Minimal skin and bones framework to reveal the individual character (Mies Van Der Rohe) + Focus on urban landscape and the public realm (MVRDV)

Limiting excess and clutter to emphasize open space (Mies Van Der Rohe) + Reuse of materials for Sustainability (MVRDV)

Unification achieved without ornamentation through the character of enclosed space (Mies Van Der Rohe) + Turn urbanism into landscape architecture (MVRDV)

EXP 2 - concepts

Last week in class we were required to come up with 5 concepts for each of our chosen architects in groups.

Mies Van Der Rohe
  1. Limiting excess and clutter to emphasize open space
  2.  Planar elements for harmonization with existing landscape
  3. Minimal skin and bones framework to reveal the individual character
  4. Unification achieved without ornamentation through the character of enclosed space
  5. Reducing distractions to emphasize the beauty in essential elements of our lives

MVRDV
  1. Reuse of materials for Sustainability
  2. Challenging existing thinking through optimizing design solutions
  3. Focus on urban landscape and the public realm
  4. Radical investigative spatial research
  5. Multicultural habitat for a rich social life
  6. Turn urbanism into landscape architecture

I especially love the designs by MVRDV, I think that they are extremely imaginitive and creative - they are unlike any building I have seen before. The way that they are represented on their website is also unique. I will definitely keep up to date with their work!

Developed:

These two buildings have been developed to showcase both Heston Blumenthal and Revival cycles works.
The top layer features a number of spiky shapes and a hair raising ramp to emphasise the 'shock' factor. Motorcycles can be displayed in the glass spokes of the sun shaped room, repaired and washed in the west rooms. The main room features a large glass wall where one can observe riders traverse the ramp.
A winding spiral staircase leads down to Heston's building, which features a number of spherical rooms that are kept separate to induce 'mystery'. These include a dining room, harvesting room, kitchen, wash room and a place where Heston's best works can be displayed.

(using new 'shock' section)
